Android apps, communicating with a device plugged in the USB port -

I'm thinking about an Android app (possibly together with a physical device), and I want to know Is it something that is possible.

1) Let's say I plug my Android into my PC. Can an app be installed on a PC to communicate with an app that runs in a cellphone? I just need a very simple data exchange, it can be the only one (data from the cell phone on the PC is pushed to the app, whenever the cell phone wants, I can send data from the PC to the phone Do not need to)

When I plug it in, the phone gives me 4 options (charging, disk drive, HTC sync, Tethering), from which I think this is not possible, but still worth the shot .

2) Is it possible for an app on PC to talk to the app in a different way on the phone? (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.). I am not making any guesses on Wi-Fi because neither party has other IPs (and I want it to work only, do not input the IP manually) all the time.

3) If I make a device that is plugged in to a small USB port at the bottom of the phone (and we say that it is a magical device that can do anything, give me those details Do not care as long as this is possible). Do I have an Android app on that device?

4) To talk to the phone with "device", or any other suggestion to make an app in PC, it is more than welcome, going through the "web" can be an option (Although there should be a central server which is in me as a middle man, I believe). But I want the communication to be direct between two devices.

Thank you very much for any idea!
Daniel

The world has changed since this question, and the answer is now. It will not solve the problem for existing USB devices, but it can make use of an Android device's USB connection which makes it possible to create a new device.
