open source - GPL component in an online SAAS app? -

I have a web based application that I charge a monthly fee for those businesses that allow them to create a website . I would like to use a GPL (version2) component (PLUpleload, which is a flash component) in my site builder, which allows my client to upload files. I do not mind sharing any changes made in PLUpload, but I can not make my entire website code GPP.

Can I use this in my website without my whole web application GPL?

Usually, yes. GPL limits the distribution of primarily , so long as you are not distributing your website (such as selling all the code in the zip file to install others), you can use GPL There is no need to release the rest of your website. In fact, even if you change the component and do not distribute the new component, you do not need to release the changes in those source code.

I should add that GNU has a separate license for the use of a website named AGPL, in which there are different requirements in relation to website usage of AGPLL code. If the code comes under this, then I do not know that there is considerable license in relation to your question (which is also controversial).

I do not know PLUpload, what it does, etc., but the above is believed that this server side is the only code used and it is not a flash component that is being sent to the browser ... which is also about a lot of debate, GPL is similar to using Javascript, part of the website code base, what you need to give to people in relation to your code, which component was sent to the browser Is that Swimming "(the formation of a website? Single HTTP response, etc.).

I am not an advocate nor is it legal advice (Yada Yada). If it really concerns you, then I recommend hiring one.
